I realize that many others are talking about the same thing
today, so no, this is not an obligatory post. Call
me a dork, but I still get a little excited every time I step into a
voting booth and am downright giddy checking the box for a candidate I’m
especially gung-ho about. Today, that is
what I’m thankful for, for many different reasons.
First and foremost, I’m thankful that I’m alive today rather
than 100 years ago. Need I say more?
Next, I’m grateful for some great early experiences surrounding
politics and elections. Government class
my senior year of high school provided some great background through the
requirement that we each work a certain number of hours on a campaign (anyone
remember making calls for Bill Blaine?) and the opportunity to close the polls
that year. The UD College Democrats got
me fired up about politics on the state level, and kept me going through the
first presidential election in which I was able to cast a ballot. There really is nothing like living in a
swing state, is there?
As much as some of my friends and family with differing
political views drive me nuts, I’m thankful that everyone is entitled to his or
her opinion. While I don’t agree with
all of them, I generally feel that as long as one’s opinion is well though out,
I can respect it…as long as the resulting action doesn’t infringe on others’
rights. Keeping that in mind, get out and VOTE, especially if you're a bleeding heart liberal. :-)
